  • Serving the Tallahassee Area for More Than 30 Years. Stephen M. Masterson has practiced law for more than thirty years. In addition to many years devoted to the litigation of civil matters, he has served as a workers’ compensation judge, taught trial practice at the FSU College of Law, and written numerous articles and books on the law. He has been a frequent lecturer on legal matters. Steve has long history as a leader in the legal community, serving as an officer of local bar associations and as an elected representative to the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar. As the Executive Director of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, he served as the organization’s spokesperson and chief lobbyist. In that capacity, he participated in the drafting of legislation relevant to the civil justice system, testified before committees of the legislature, and gave hundreds of speeches throughout the Florida and the nation. Over the years Steve has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Dade County Trial Lawyers Justice Award and Florida Defense Lawyers award for the best published article in 2002. He is AV-rated by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, indicating that his peers have ranked him at the highest level of professional excellence. Steve graduated with highest honors from South Texas College of Law (J.D.). He earned a Masters of Law (LL.M.) from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a graduate of Florida State University. He is married to Betsy Wade Masterson, a professional violinist. He is the father of two daughters, Lauren and Lindsey.
