About Us

  • We pride ourselves on the service we provide each family we serve. Behr Funeral Home was founded by Norbert and Mary Behr and opened for business in October of 1936 at 1832 Central Avenue in Dubuque. In 1948 Mr. Behr purchased the Alexander Young House at 1491 Main Street. Originally built in 1879, the house served as a private residence for the Young family and subsequently for the John Bell family until it became the Behr Funeral Home. Our funeral home is one of the many homes and businesses in Dubuque that were designed by Fridolin J. Heer, Sr., a Swiss born master stonecutter and architect. A restoration project was begun in 2000 to return the home to its original design.
